First run

Documented Checked against the CLI's current help and source. Not run end to end. CLI 0.3.1, checked 2026-10-12.

This page is step 2 and 3 of Start here in detail: what you see the first time you run quox. If you are new, start there.

The first time you run bare quox in a terminal, it shows a short notice once:

  • who we are: the main front door to Quox, your self-hosted control plane for AI agents
  • links to the docs, the Terms and the Privacy policy
  • the licence name: Quox Community Source Licence 1.0 (source-available)
  • where your prompts go: to your own QuoxCORE server, and to the AI provider you connect to it
  • that risky actions ask you first, and actions Quox takes leave receipts
  • that this CLI sends no telemetry to Quox
  • that by using Quox CLI you agree to the Terms

Press Enter to continue. It is shown once, and again only if the notice itself changes. Its final wording is still being settled, so details here may change.

inside quox
/about

/about, typed inside quox, shows the same information at any time.

It is not shown when output is not a terminal, with --print, or when QUOX_NO_WELCOME=1 is set. Quox records that you have seen it in ~/.config/quox/welcome.json.

your terminal
quox -n release-checks

The name shows in the top rule and in /sessions. You can also name a session later with /rename. See Sessions and agents.

your terminal
quox --demo

This plays a simulated journey with demo data. No server is contacted and nothing real runs.

Back to Start here, step 3, to connect to a QuoxCORE.
