The starting point

QuoxCORE is free and fully functional.
Not a trial. Not a crippled tier.

Orchestration, agents, memory, the smart router, JSON trace export, and self-hosted or air-gapped deployment are all in the free platform. The plugins below add compliance, audit, and developer capabilities for enterprise teams.

No per-seat or monthly billing; a few plugins bill annually. To start: install free QuoxCORE on your own server, then add plugins when you need them.

Protocols · Apache 2.0Core platform · BSL 1.1Source-available, converts to Apache 2.0

What you may do with the source

Apache 2.0open source
The four protocol specifications: AEE, AOCL, VOLT and WARD. Use them commercially, modify them, redistribute them, implement them without us. A patent grant is included. Files: aee/LICENSE, aocl/LICENSE, volt/LICENSE, ward/LICENSE.
BSL 1.1source-available
QuoxCORE and the platform repositories. The source is readable and auditable, and self-hosting it in production is free of charge at any scale. It is not open source: you may not offer it, or a substantial portion of it, as a commercial hosted service, managed service or white-label product without a separate agreement with Quox LTD. File: quox/LICENSE.
What changesand when
Each version of the BSL 1.1 work converts to the Apache License 2.0 on the change date recorded in that version’s LICENSE file, currently 2030-03-06, or on the fourth anniversary of that version’s first public release, whichever comes first. From that moment the Apache 2.0 terms apply and the restriction above ends.

Three ways to run it

Self-host it, or have it run for you

Every one of them ships the full evidence chain. Nothing that makes Quox provable sits behind a paywall.

Managed, in detail

Managed hosting is not offered yet

We do not run instances for customers today, and you cannot buy one. Self-hosting is the only way to run Quox right now. This is the shape a managed instance would take, so you can judge it early: what is already settled by the architecture, and what is genuinely still open.

Already settled by the architecture

Tenancyone box each
A managed customer gets a whole instance of their own, not a tenant slot on a shared one. Separation between customers is the machine and network boundary, not application code.
Where it runsHetzner, Germany
The intended default is a Hetzner virtual machine in Germany. Picking a region is not an option you select yourself yet, so if you need a specific one, raise it before you sign.
Encryptionat rest
Every credential the instance stores is wrapped: a key derived on the box protects a per-credential key, and the credential itself is sealed with AES-256-GCM. Traffic to the instance is TLS.
Who holds the keythe operator
Whoever runs the box holds the master key. It lives on the machine as an environment variable, so on an instance we operate, we can read it. There is no escrow, no split custody and no customer-held-key mode today. Self-hosting is the only shape where that key never leaves you, which is why it is the free default rather than the downgrade.
Backupsencrypted, checked
A backup is pulled from the box, its SHA-256 checked against the manifest the box produced, then stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Verified end to end on a 2.68 GB restore-grade pull on 9 July 2026.
Evidencesame chain
Identical to self-hosted. The WARD chain is yours to verify, and the fleet console re-verifies it remotely as one of its drift checks, so a broken chain shows up rather than sitting silent.

Managed instances are the only hosted form of Quox. The licence does not permit anyone else to offer it as a hosted or managed service without an agreement with us. Full licensing detail →

Defined at contract, not yet published

These are genuinely undecided rather than withheld. We would rather say so than publish a number we have not committed to.

  • Price and tiers for a managed instance
  • Scope of service, and which side is responsible for what
  • Uptime and support response commitments
  • Data residency, as a commitment rather than a default
  • A data processing agreement covering a hosted instance. The one published today covers plugin-runtime processing and does not extend to hosting
  • Terms of service for a hosted service, including suspension and data return
  • Whether and how our access to your instance is logged back to you
  • Backup retention, recovery point and recovery time
  • Who pays for model usage on the instance
  • Custom domains

Decision Evidence

The decision record your agent leaves behind, per chat turn.

$599/year

  • In that turn's AEE envelope, recorded to the VOLT chain
  • The dedicated VOLT ledger and WARD receipt views

  • Scope today: dashboard chat on Anthropic paths, one record per turn
  • The reason field is the model's own stated reasoning, not independently verified
  • Not wired today: workflow runs, agent-to-agent delegation, Telegram, Slack, Discord

Questions

Enterprise FAQ

How can Quox help prepare SOC 2 evidence?

The Compliance Suite generates evidence bundles mapped to each Trust Services Criteria (CC1-CC9). VOLT traces feed the continuous monitoring evidence, collected automatically with no manual spreadsheets or screenshots. Your auditor judges the evidence; Quox does not grant or guarantee certification.

Can we deploy in an air-gapped environment?

Yes. The control plane, policies, memory, secrets and evidence chain run entirely on your infrastructure. Licence activation supports offline mode, and inference runs where you choose: fully local for an air-gapped deployment, or through a model provider you explicitly configure.

How are agent actions made immutable?

Every agent operation produces a VOLT trace entry with a cryptographic hash chain. Each entry references the hash of the previous entry, creating a tamper-evident ledger. Any modification to historical records breaks the chain and is immediately detectable.

What does the Developer Kit include, and is it really free?

Layer SDK for building custom AOCL processing layers, a Layer Playground for isolated testing, hot-reload development, and plugin marketplace access. It is free to everyone as of 2026-08-28: no licence, no seat count, no academic or team tier, because we are not putting a paywall between a developer and the marketplace.

Do the enterprise plugins stack?

Yes. Compliance Suite and Decision Evidence are $599 a year each, $1,198 bought separately. The enterprise bundle takes both for $959 a year, saving $239, which is 20% off. The Developer Kit is included at no charge and contributes nothing to that saving, because it is free on its own anyway.

What compliance frameworks do you support?

SOC2 (Trust Services Criteria), HIPAA (164.312 Security Rule), GDPR (Article 30 Records), ISO 27001 (Annex A Controls), and NIST AI 600-1 risk management. Custom framework templates available on request.

How does licensing work?

Our four protocol specifications (AEE, AOCL, VOLT, WARD) are Apache 2.0, fully open source. The core platform is source-available under the Business Source License 1.1, which is not an open source licence: each version converts to Apache 2.0 on its change date, 2030-03-06 in the current LICENSE file, or four years after that version is first published, whichever comes first.

Most plugins are one-time purchases. Enterprise plugins (Compliance Suite, Decision Evidence) are annual subscriptions, never one-off perpetual licences.

What support is included?

Compliance Suite, Decision Evidence and the free Developer Kit include email support and onboarding assistance. Formal response targets and service commitments will be published with the terms of service; until then we do not advertise an SLA.
