Notes from the terminal

Can I write and find notes from the terminal?

Create a note, search for it by a word, then read it back, add to it and tag it, without opening the dashboard.

What you get: a note written and found again in seconds. Notes you create here are the same notes you see in the dashboard and in chat.

Ask in plain words:

quox · talking to Quox

Add a note titled 'Q4 supplier review' saying 'call the three shortlisted suppliers by Friday'. Then search my notes for supplier.

Quox handed the job to the notes agent, which saved the note and then searched for it, and the search found the one note.

The text comes from --stdin or --file, and the note’s title is its first # heading, so start your text with one. With neither, --title gives you a note that is just that heading. Add --tag <tag> to file it under a tag from the start.

A note that says how to do something, step by step, can be proposed as a skill. It is reviewed before any agent uses it, and without --yes the command only shows what it would propose. Here the note came from a markdown file, reset.md, of four numbered steps:

propose-skill
quox notes new --file reset.md --tag howtoCreated note 020e9bbb603030f9a7c76e2808a169528367e008 (Reset a tripped boiler).quox notes propose-skill 020e9bbb603030f9a7c76e2808a169528367e008name: reset-a-tripped-boilercategory: proceduredescription: Use this when a customer reports that the boiler has stopped and shows a fault light.# Reset a tripped boiler Use this when a customer reports that the boiler has stopped and shows a fault light. 1. Ask the customer to read the pressure gauge. It should be between 1 and 1.5 bar.2. If the pressure is low, talk them through topping it up with the filling loop.3. Ask them to press and hold the reset button for five seconds, then wait two minutes.4. If the boiler trips again, book an engineer visit for the same day and note the fault code.Re-run with --yes to propose it. It lands as an experimental skill, outside the stable library; an automated safety check reviews it and anything flagged goes to the human review queue (quox skills review).

The skill’s name comes from the note’s title, and --name or --category change it. A very short note is refused, so give it the real steps. We stopped at the preview here, then removed the note with quox notes rm <id> --yes.

Each command changed or read one note in your organisation’s notes. The edits are saved as revisions, so quox notes history <id> shows each version and quox notes restore <id> goes back to an earlier one.

Run quox notes search supplier again after each step. The note should appear after step 1, and quox notes show should end with your appended line after step 4.

quox notes restore <id> returns a note to an earlier revision. quox notes rm <id> --yes deletes a note you wrote.
