Set up divisions and teams

How do I organise my people?

Create a division and a team, rename and describe them, and tidy them away, with every change written to the audit trail.

What you get: your organisation laid out in divisions and teams, without opening the dashboard. You need: to be the organisation’s owner (we ran every step below as the owner). About 5 minutes.

The user id in the first column is what you pass when you add someone to a team.

2. Create a division

A division is the broad grouping, such as a region or a part of the business. Give each division a name of its own.

3. Create a team

Whoever creates a team joins it as its admin, so a new team starts with one member. Every organisation also has a default team of its own.

4. Look inside the team

The team has its own scope under the organisation, which is what lets work be held to one team. Add --json for the full record.

To add a colleague, take their user id from step 1: quox team members add <teamId> --user <userId>. quox team members remove <teamId> --user <userId> takes them off again.

5. Change them

What just happened

Section titled “What just happened”

Each command changed your organisation’s structure. Creating, changing and deleting a team, and creating and deleting a division, each wrote a line to the organisation’s audit trail under your name. Creating the team also set up the team’s own governed chat room, and deleting the team took that room away again.
